Credit Card Charges out of Control

Just a bit of an FYI for all of you who are getting ready to burn some plastic at the Maine Quilts 2009 show...

Many of the small quilt shops are getting hammered with charges from Visa, Discover and MasterCard when we use our credit/debit cards to pay for our purchases. In some cases, the fees have doubled and are causing a hardship for these already strapped businesses struggling to keep their heads above water. I spoke to the owner of the Busy Thimble and she confirms this fact. I suggested that shops offer a discount for those who pay with cash or check, which she is going to take under consideration. So, support your local quilt shops and use cash, yes, it's that green stuff, and give the credit card companies less profit. Until this economy turns around, we need to be proactive and help not only the LQS but any small business by not cutting into their slim profits by using plastic.
