Latest finished quilt top for the Ronald McDonald House raffle

Put a 120 box of Crayola crayons (sans black, white, silver, copper and gold colors) in a box and ask someone to close their eyes and pick three crayons--that is the Crayola challenge for about 40 ladies on the HGTV Quilting site. Our hostess had her husband do just that and I got red, shamrock green and lavender. You have to use fabrics of that particular shade or a bit lighter, BUT no other colors or white allowed. So, if I wanted to use a print, it would have to include all three of the colors! No way, Jose! So, in my effort to keep the quilt from looking too Christmasy, I used quite a bit of the lavender. Nice and bright, huh? Some child will be thrilled with it. I have the original pattern by Atkinson Designs, "All About Me" picture shown on the left so you can see how I used the pattern.

The HGTV group will start selling raffle tickets in January and all funds will go to the RMD House Charities in the Houston area. Each year the region is moved to make it fair to everyone in the country to have their local houses funded.

Just when I thought I was going to have to machine quilt it (I just did one a few weeks ago and forgot to thank Denise S. for her help in making my layers and putting in those darn pins in preparation of quilting) an offer from a lady in Houston to do machine quilting on her longarm machine for $50 each, which includes the batting and return postage! All monies collected by this will be given to The Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund. You can be sure I jumped on that deal like it was on fire and put my name in for two tops (she was only doing a total of 12). No fancy patterns, but meandering designs of her choice. I mailed her two quilt tops and backing fabric this morning. The second top is an Ebay find for this 30's repro, full-size quilt for only $10! You decide if that was a steal!
